In 1999, driven by our love of Costa Rica and passion for adventure sports, as two young dreamers, we took a leap of faith towards our dreams; pursuing the divine right to make a living doing what we love, Explornatura was born.

We settled in the Turrialba Valley, surrounded by nature, archeological sites, canyons, rapids, an active volcano, charming rural communities full of some of the most wonderfully warm and hospitable people you could meet anywhere. Do we need to say more?

We’re very lucky and grateful to have as our office and playground the lush tropical forests of Costa Rica, but we don’t take it for granted. We put a lot of effort into preserving, but also improving the natural resources that were given, so future generations get a chance to enjoy and care for them as well.

We are very much aware of the fact that we can’t (and should not) handle all the conservation efforts ourselves, reason why we are committed to the communities in which we work. The sustainability of our projects has everything to do with the positive economic and social impact tourism can have in these communities, key to guarantee a harmonious relationship with nature.

With over 20 years on this business we’re still in love with what we do, but we’ve come to realize that the most rewarding part of this -and what keeps us going- is all the good, talented, fierce, resilient and wonderful people we’ve met thanks to our job and that we now get to call “our friends”. No joke, no gimmick, thanks to that leap of faith we took back in 1999 we’ve made friendships who stay in touch and keep visiting Turrialba every couple of years. Friends who have seen our children grow up and have sat at our family tables. That my friends, is a good reason to get up in the morning. May you find your passion and follow that bastard!

As stated above, this place has everything! We are surrounded by nature, archeological sites, canyons, rapids, an active volcano, charming rural communities full of some of the most wonderfully warm and hospitable people you could meet anywhere. Do we need to say more?

Location is great as well, Turrialba is just 1.5 hours away from Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose. It’s also easy to combine with some of the most popular things to do in Costa Rica like the South Caribbean, Tortuguero, La Fortuna and it’s impressive Arenal Volcano, Orosi, the Irazu Volcano and the highlands of Cerro de la Muerte.

Although our heart is in Turrialba, we’re travelers and our soul belongs to the road so we provide services all over Costa Rica.
